Seedai
Seedai is most important item during Krishna Jayanthi. When my mom used to make Seedai, I wondered how hard it is to make it and how much pains my mom took to make it for us. My sister and I would help her make the seedai balls and my mom would fry it in oil . When done, we will wait for the pooja to get over so that we can relish the seedai. Now, I make seedai at home and I realised its pretty simple. There is no extra ordinary ingredients.. Just that you need to make small balls which might take sometime. but its not that difficult. So today's snack is Seedai.
Ingredients:
Rice Flour - 1 cup
Urad flour - 2 tbsp
salt - to taste
Oil - To Deep fry
Sesame seeds - 1/2 tbsps
Grated Coconut - 2 tbsps
Asafoetida - 1/4 tbps
Butter - 2 tbsp (melted)
Preparation:
Sieve rice flour and urad flour together before you start the process to remove any stone particles or other non edible items from flour.
Mix all the above ingredients with water and make it a big ball.
Take small portions of the mix and make small balls and keep it on a clean cloth.
Deep fry these balls in oil in low heat. Fry untill golden brown.
Strain the oil and store it.
You can have it as a snack along with tea or coffee.
Note: If there is any stone particles in the flour or any other non edible particles in the flour, there are chances that the balls will splutter. So you can sieve the flour to remove such particles before you fry it. Also fry 10 - 15 at a time. If need be use some plate to cover when you put the balls into oil to avoid spluttering on face or body.
