Black Currant - Raspberry Milk Shake

Its pretty warm today in San Diego and I felt kind of dehydrated. Wanted to have a thirst quenching drink. When ever I feel like this, I make some milkshake which is light and not so heavy. Light milkshakes are the best thirst quenchers to me. This time I tired Raspberry black currant milk shake. I had bought dried black currant yesterday. I love to eat it just like that. But today I tried this milkshake. It was very good. Black currant and raspberry made good combination. Very nice color, thirst quenching drink and a light drink...

Nutritional Values:

Black currants have high Vitamin C and E content and rich in potassium iron and other valuable nutrients. Raspberries are also rich in antioxidants.Coupled with this strong B vitamin and mineral content, raspberries qualified as excellent in terms of dietary fiber. This combination of nutrients makes raspberries a great fruit choice for having minimal impact on blood sugars.

Ingredients:

Dried/ Fresh Black Currants - 1 tbsp
Raspberry - 6-8
Milk - 1cup
Sugar - 4 tbsps

Preparation:

Soak the dried black currant in milk for about 5 - 10 mins so that it will be easy to blend with raspberry. If fresh you can use it directly.

Grind the soaked black currants along with that milk , raspberry, milk , sugar in a blender untill frothy...

Serve it cold on a sunny day.

Sending this to Akila's DSWB - B

Mint Tea!!!!

Its been a while since I posted recipes. Long weekend, down with fever how bad is that????? Sitting at home doing nothing :-( Difficult situation right!!! Anyways... Am back with more now after a small break. In this break I noticed so many new and yummy treats to our taste buds. So here I am with an interesting tea. With my cold and I the climate being erratic here today, felt like having something warm. This is an Moroccan tea which they serve at the end of their course. The main reason to serve it at the end is because mint serves as a great mouth freshener. But we can have it anytime whenever you feel like drinking something hot especially in winter. Moroccan table manners is very similar to Indian style where they wash hands before they start their course and after they finish the meal. We were really surprised when the person at the restaurant asked us to wash hands in a bowl in warm water. They have five course meal. They have good items in their meal. Very interesting restaurant. If you get a chance I would recommend you to visit a Moroccan restaurant. You will enjoy.

Ingredients:

Green Tea Leaves - 1 tbsps
Mint Leaves - 15 Leaves
Honey 1 tbsps
Water 2 cup

Preparation:

Boil 2 cups water immerse green tea leaves and mint leaves in that hot water. Leave it for 2 mins and drain the leaves.

Mix honey in the tea and serve hot.

Very refreshing winter drink.

Cherry Mango Blast!!

Its summer!!! We all love summer.. Its the best part of the year to enjoy at the same time keep our body hydrated. I was just sitting on my couch thinking what to write for the blog today and suddenly the Cherry Mango Blast idea stuck my mind. Usually i just make milkshake out of  fruit and milk and may be sometimes add sugar. This time I wanted to add something more to it. The best thing to add is obviously ice cream. What flavor???? Usually i prefer vanilla as its a safe option. This time I had mango ice cream. And beleive me its so delicious!!!!

Serves : 2

All you need is:

Fresh Cherries - 8 to 10
Milk - 1 cup
Mango Ice cream - 4 scoops.

Procedure:

Take out the pits from cherries. Blend it along with milk and ice cream in the blender untill everything blends well and you see the froth. I like shakes with the froth. So I whip it extra for about 2 mins and that's it! The Cherry Mango Blast is ready in no time.

Health Factor:

I read an article on Cherries which states that cherries are great source of vitamin C, rich source of fibre and it has melatonin which helps regulate sleep cycles.

Such a great drink for summer !!! Yum! Yum! yum! yum! Delicioso!!!

I am sending this recipe to Ayeesha's Veggie/ Fruit A Month event and also Priya's Vegetable/Fruit A Month"

Masala Lassi (Butter Milk)

Summers are really hot everywhere and I am sure all of us take adequate precautions to keep ourselves cool. One way to keep away from heat is to drink lot of fluids. So we make fruit juice, lassi, vegetable juice, milk shakes etc. Here i thought of sharing a delicious masala lassi made with butter milk or yogurt, which will quench your thirst and keeps the body cool. Its very simple and i am sure all of us are aware of lassi. This one is also similar but has great taste.

Ingredients:

Yogurt - 1/4 cup
Water - 1 and 1/4 cup
Hing - 2 dashes
Jeera Powder - 2 - 3 pinches
Cilantro - Handfull
Salt - to taste
Green Chili (Jus for flavor)- 1 (I prefer without chili because i dont like to eat spicy during summer)

Blend all the ingredients in a blender until everything is ground and mixed well. Pour it in a glass and serve. Believe me its delicious and very good drink for summer. You can garnish with cilantro adn a dash of jeera powder. Hope you enjoyed it! Good day!
